Catching
a runner off base (Rundowns) can be made easier with practice... Video
of the day The keys to successful rundown defense are as follows:

Conduct the entire rundown far away from the lead base,
-
Stay out of the runner's path when not in possession of the ball,
-
Force the runner full speed back to the original (trail) base,
-
Hold the ball steady, don't pump fake,
-
Tag as soon as you can, throw only if you must,
-
Limit to one throw at the right moment.
Play catch your son or daughter for a few minutes each day and stress catching with (2) hands, except near a fence. They have been snow bound all winter, need practice and some quality time to brighten their spirit. Simply encouraging accurate throws will help them tremendously. There is no substitute for actuate throws and playing catch. It's a fun thing to do, and it helps them in more ways than one. Video of the day.
Batters can focus on the rim of the pitchers hat. As the pitcher brings his hand up and shows the ball, the batter simply moves his eyes to the ball, already focused for the distance. At the same time, (when the pitcher shows you the ball) the batter should shift his weight to his back leg and bring his hands back slightly. ( this position is the "TRIGGER") This should help prevent the "Late Swing". Video of the day.
On defense expect EVERY ball to come to you. Before EVERY pitch, think about what'll you do with the ball if it's hit to you. Also, think about what you'll do if the ball is hit to the other 8 players. Video Tip of the Day
Glove Up or Glove Down ... When catching a ball, if the ball is above your waist point the fingers on your glove up. If the ball is below your waist, point the fingers down. Video Tip for the Day:
